FAQs
What is Niacinamide?
Niacinamide is a derivative of Vitamin B3, also known as nicotinic acid. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-redness properties. Thus, this makes it ideal for acne-prone skin as well as sensitive skin types.
Niacinamide is unique among the vitamin B family in that it acts as a communication ingredient. By acting through special pathways, Niacinamide increases skin strength.
What are the benefits of Niacinamide?
- Immunity. Niacinamide helps build keratin, a type of protein that keeps your skin firm and healthy.
- Lipid barrier. It helps your skin to produce natural fats called ceramides. In turn, ceramides help retain moisture. This is especially useful for those who have eczema and mature skin.
- Reduces redness and blotchiness. Niacinamide reduces inflammation. Inflammation and redness of the skin occurs in several conditions. These include eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions.
- Reduces pore appearance. When used regularly pore size reduces over time.
- Balances oil. There is a difference between skin oils and skin moisture. Niacinamide helps retain moisture (water level) In addition, it regulates the amount of oil produced. This leads to hydrated skin that is not on oil overdrive.
- Protects against UV rays of the sun. Niacinamide stimulates healthy skin cells to grow to replace damaged ones. Furthermore, it protects against the harmful radiation rays of the sun. Having said that, you still need to apply your sunscreen!
- Reduces dark spots. Some research papers have found that even just 5% Niacinamide reduces dark spots. (The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% Zinc 1% has double that concentration!). These dark spots can occur after your pimples have healed or when damaged by the sun.
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
- Improves acne. Although acne is a complex condition that has internal and external causes Niacinamide may still be helpful. With regular use, skin texture is improved and you will get fewer breakouts.
